Thank You!

A BIG !!!!THANK YOU!!!! FROM ALL AT THE RESERVOIR ACTION GROUP  TO:

·         All the 130 Walkers (and dogs!) who took part in Saturday's event on the Gold (21 Miles), Silver (17 Miles), Bronze (12 Miles), Copper (6 Miles) & Zinc Routes (3 Miles);

·         Assembly Members JULIE MORGAN (Cardiff North) & JENNY RATHBONE (Cardiff Central) - Silver Route; Jenny Rathbone also raised £200 in sponsorship.

·         MP JONATHAN EVANS  (Cardiff North) - Copper ;

·         Assembly Member  ELUNED PARROTT (South Wales Central) - Zinc Route.

With the proceeds from entry fees and sponsorship it's anticipated that over £1,000 will have been raised.

Assembly Member Eluned Parrott Will Be Walking The Zinc Route

Eluned Parrott, Assembly Member for South Wales Central (Liberal Democrat), will be walking the Zinc Route.

Jonathan Evans, Member of Parliament for Cardiff North (Conservative), will be walking the Copper Route with his wife Margaret. Jonathan Evans has campaigned in Parliament for the reservoir.

Former First Minister Rhodri Morgan and Assembly Member Julie Morgan AM Will Be Walking the Gold Route

Former First Minister Rhodri Morgan and Julie Morgan AM, Assembly Member for Cardiff North (Labour), will both be walking the Gold Route. Julie Morgan recently offered to meet PPL and discuss the reservoirs issue. PPL is the American multinational company who own the reservoirs . Despite Julie Morgan offering to travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania, at her own expense PPL have snubbed Julie's offer. PPL also own Western Power Distribution, the company that wants to build over 300 homes on the reservoir. See the blog for 2/7/11 for further details on this story.

Victorian Society Object to Destroying Reservoir

The Victorian Society has written to the Planning Inspector to register a strong objection to plans to build more than 300 homes in the basin of the Llanishen Reservoir in Cardiff.

2nd July: Reservoir Firm Denies AM 
AN Assembly Member has been refused a meeting with the firm behind plans to build on Llanishen reservoir.
Julie Morgan, AM for Cardiff North, wrote asking to meet Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) chairman James Miller at the company's headquarters in May.
Despite offering to travel to Allentown, Pennsylvania, at her own expense, she has now been told “no”. PPL own Western Power Distribution, the company that wants to build 300 homes on the reservoir.
Mrs Morgan said: “I hoped to take a strong message from campaigners to the very top of this multinational business.”

19th May: Shareholders Lobbied Over Reservoir Battle
THE fight to save Llanishen Reservoir from developers has been taken to shareholders in the US. Cardiff North AM Julie Morgan wrote an open letter to the Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL) Company’s annual meeting in the US yesterday.
She alerted it to the massive public relations damage its subsidiary, Western Power Distribution (WPD), was doing to its reputation in attempting over the last decade to “ram through” its plans for 325 houses at the Grade II-listed beauty spot despite widespread public opposition.

10th May:  Controversial reservoir site housing project rejected
THE case for Cardiff council ahead of a planning inquiry over the development of Llanishen Reservoir was strengthened last night. Councillors rejected plans from Western Power Distribution Ltd to build on the listed site and create a mini-roundabout off Lisvane Road.

7th May:  Report highlights wildlife threat at Llanishen Reservoir
Campaigners fighting to save Llanishen Reservoir have been given a boost ahead of a public inquiry into the controversial development. Cardiff council planning bosses have recommended two new planning applications linked to plans to build hundreds of homes and flats be rejected.



8th April 2011: POLITICAL heavyweight Margaret Beckett believes Llanishen Reservoir will act as a “test case” for a shake-up of UK planning laws.
