SSSI Status on Lisvane Reservoir Must Be Maintained

'Wildlife in Wales in Crisis' reports the Western Mail, to see the article . Shows its critical that all areas with SSSI status, like Lisvane Reservoir, must have this status maintained so wildlife numbers can recover.

WPD Sell Houses Bought to Build Access Road!

Following WPD's historic loss at the planning appeal they have now sold three houses they bought about 10 years ago. When WPD bought the houses they immediately boarded them up and had planned to have them demolished to make way for an access road to the reservoir housing development. For the South Wales Echo report on this story see Click Here

WOW, WE SAVED IT!!!

On 25th April we heard the fantastic news from the Welsh Government that the American utility company, Western Power Distribution (WPD), who own the reservoirs, had lost their last planning appeal. This should mean the reservoirs are now saved for future generations to enjoy sailing, fishing and walking again. CLICK HERE to read the Echo article.

8th June UpdateWPD had until the 8th June to appeal but, further good news,  they're not going to -  Click Here for the news story.  Therefore the campaign now moves into a new phase which is to restore the reservoirs as a public amenity. So the campaign and fundraising willl continue and the Save Our Cardiff Reservoirs Walk will still happen! And if we hear that WPD now wish to work constructively towards restoring the reservoirs to their former glory then any funds raised from the walks will be given to that purpose.

WPD Lose Planning Appeal!

Its taken a while to get the Planning Inspector's decision but worth the wait - Western Power Distribution/The Philadelphia Power & Light Corporation have lost their planning appeal! This is great news for the whole of Cardiff. It means we keep the reservoir amenity - sailing, fishing and walking at the reservoir can be enjoyed by future generations.

It shows that a multinational which makes billions of pounds of profits don't always win. Sometimes the democratic process does work!

Councillor Phil Bale (Who Climbed Africa's Highest Mountain Kilimanjaro To Raise Funds for RAG) Will Be Taking Part

Phil at the top of Kilimanjaro.
Last summer Councillor Phil Bale succeeded in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro where he raised a Reservoir Action Group poster at the summit (for a brief few moments at least!). Phil’s climb raised hundreds of pounds in sponsorship for our campaign to protect another area of outstanding beauty on this planet. It was a great personal achievement that once again shows the strength of feeling against Western Power Distribution’s plans for the reservoir site.

The sign behind Phil reads: “Uhuru Peak, Tanzania, 5895m; Africa’s Highest Point; World’s Highest Free-Standing Mountain; One of the World’s Largest Volcanoes; Welcome”
